SUMMARY:Recognizing and Combating Implicit Bias Training
DESCRIPTION:\nHave you heard the term Implicit Bias used in the media or at work and feel curious to understand more? Do you wonder what kind of automatic and unintentional patterns of thinking (or cognitive shortcuts) are at work in your own life? Please join the League of Women Voters of Manatee County on March 31, 2021 from 8:30-10:30am, as we welcome Dr. Lorie Fridell and engage together in a virtual Implicit Bias training. Dr. Fridell’s workshop will help us answer the questions:\n\n\n\nWhat is implicit bias?How might it manifest in our lives?What are the skills we can use to reduce and manage bias?\n\n\n\nThis training is for everyone in our community who would like to understand their own brain better – as we now know – “if you’ve got a brain, you’ve got bias.” Once we can understand how our own brain uses bias, we can follow Maya Angelou’s advice: “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”\n\n\n\nDr. Fridell is a Professor in the Department of Criminology at the University of South Florida and a nationally recognized expert on biased policing.
