DESCRIPTION:\nClick Here to Register for the Program\n\n\n\nLegislation on tax breaks, prescription drugs, preemption of local laws, affordable housing, insurance, environment, school vouchers, LGBTQ rights, race and gender identity, voting rights, immigration, guns, abortion, death penalty, Disney and more were all passed in the 2023 legislation session. The 2023 legislative session was among the most wide ranging and impactful of all of Florida’s sessions. Bipartisan laws AND controversial laws with only one party support passed with speed. One might question if many of these laws were really the will or in the best interest of the majority of Florida’s citizens.\n\n\n\nHow does the League establish and then lobby the legislature on behalf of its Legislative Priorities? What are the political implications of the laws passed in the 2023 legislative session. Join Trish Neely, and Frank Alcock for insights into the legislative session, the League’s perspective and future political implications.\n\n\n\nWe are pleased to have as speakers:\n\n\n\n\nTrish Neely is President of the League of Women Voters of Tallahassee. Trish previously was a member of the LWVT board of directors and chaired its Lobby Corps and Membership Committees. Lobby Corps monitors the state legislature and frequently testifies for the League. Neely comes from a 30-year career in various corporate management and executive leadership positions.\n\n\n\nFrank Alcock is the Director of Academic Initiatives and Special Projects and a Professor of Political Science and Environmental Studies at New College of Florida. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Duke University, a M.A. in International Affairs from George Washington University and a B.A. in Economics from Binghamton University. He has been at New College since 2003 teaching courses on world politics, international law and environmental policy.\n\n
