A Conversation with Manatee School Superintendent Dr. Jason Wysong
An Invitation from LWV Manatee’s Education Issues Action Team
Dr. Jason Wysong is serving his 2nd year as Superintendent of the School District of Manatee County.
Dr. Wysong’s priorities as superintendent include enhancing student safety and campus security; improving student outcomes in core subject areas; ensuring that every graduate has a plan for their future; and maintaining the school district’s reputation for providing high-quality opportunities for students in the arts, athletics, and career and technical education—all while showing respect for taxpayers by responsibly and transparently operating the school district.
Dr. Wysong has had a 24-year career in K-12 education in Florida. Dr. Wysong began his career in education as a teacher of high school social studies and coach of nationally competitive debate teams at two secondary schools in central Florida over seven years.
Before being selected as Manatee District’s Superintendent by the current school board, he spent the past sixteen years with Seminole County Public Schools, beginning there as a high school administrator. He moved to the district office four years later, working in several instructional positions and culminating as Deputy Superintendent, a role in which he led K-12 instruction.
Dr. Wysong attended K-12 schools in Miami-Dade County followed by two degrees from the University of Florida (B.A., Political Science & History; M.Ed., Social Studies Education) and two more from the University of Central Florida (Ed.S., Educational Leadership; Ed.D. Educational Leadership).
