LGBTQ + Inclusivity Training
Come learn with us as we expand and build our understanding of sexuality, gender, identity, and expression. In this 2-hour, virtual training, Christine Grossman (she/hers), Outreach Coordinator for ALSO Youth, will guide us through:
- -defining the identities represented in the acronym LGBTQ+;
- -differences in sexual orientation, biological sex, and gender identity; and
- -how to become an ally and advocate for the youth and adutls in our community (e.g., using pronouns and responding when someone comes out to you)
ALSO Youth was created in 1992 by individuals who were alarmed at the statistics documenting high rates of suicide among gay and lesbian teens. Today, ALSO Youth is a Non-Profit Charity that provides peer support services, educational programs, advocacy, and referrals for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and questioning youth ages 13 to 24, their families and friends, and the community, thereby enhancing self-esteem, promoting healthy dialogue, and increasing awareness of sexual minority youth issues.
LWV is an organization fully committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in principle and in practice. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to the organization’s current and future success in engaging all individuals, households, communities, and policy makers in creating a more perfect democracy. Join us in taking another step toward creating an inclusive community. This training is for current LWVMC members, and we look forward to partnering with Christine to make a training available to the community in the near future.
