Natural Resources Emerson Point and Portavant Temple Mound Outing
LWV Natural Resources Action Team has an outing at 10AM, Thursday, May 11th, which replaces our regular monthly Natural Resources meeting.
Come join our fellow Natural Resources and interested LWV members for an informative visit to Manatee County’s Emerson Point and Portavant Temple Mound in west Palmetto. This is located on the west end of Snead Island at 5801 17th St. W. Palmetto.
Emerson Point is a state-owned and county-managed 365 acre preserve, located between Manatee River and Terra Ceia Bay. Portavant Mound, on the U.S. National Registry of Historic Places, is one of fifteen or more Native American “temple mounds” produced by the Safety Harbor culture (900-1725) found in the vicinity of Tampa Bay.
Please join us to experience the history and uniqueness of Portavant Mound and Emerson Preserve. Let’s meet at the parking area a short distance inside Emerson Point gate on the left near the Portavant Mound at 10 AM.
