
Power and Money, Why the Census is so Important, the November Hot Topics was the topic of an article in the Herald Tribune by reporter Dale White. White attended and helped spread the message that the census is not only important for the allocation of $675 billion in federal appropriations, but also determines if Florida, and Manatee County will be fairly represented for the next 10 years. The meeting was well received by the approximately 70 attendees. The Census bureau and Manatee are not only working diligently to get the word out and get support, but also are actively hiring, particularly those that speak fluent Spanish.
Neal E. Dollar, US Census Partnership Specialist, Atlanta Regional Census Center talked about the major changes in how the homes are contacted, simplify collection and the follow up.
Ogden Clark, of the Neighborhood Services Department of Manatee County, spoke of the Complete County Committee and their community outreach, particularly to areas that have undercount in the past.
