CEO of the League of Women Voters Arrested at the White House

The CEO of the League of Women Voters, Virginia Kase Solomón, was Arrested at the White House

Due to the inconsistencies in voting rights and the enactment of may laws meant to curtail voting after the 2020 election, voting rights activists know “The Time is Up” to get the Freedom to Vote Act passed.  The 2022 midterms are looming and time is short to enact these reforms.  The October 19th action, where Solomon and 24 others were arrested, was led by the League of Women Voters of the United States, People For the American Way, Declaration for American Democracy, and Democracy Initiative. Participants called on President Biden to use the influence of his office to get the Freedom to Vote Act passed in the Senate. A similar action was held on October 5 (5 arrests). On the morning of November 17th, once again voting rights activists will demonstrate in front of the White House to demand that this Administration stop making excuses, and prioritize our voting rights NOW!

Key provisions of the Freedom to Vote Act are:

  • Expanding Opportunities to Vote
  • Thwarting Voter Suppression
  • Redistricting Reform
  • Preventing Election Sabotage
  • Modernizing Voter Registration
  • Campaign Finance Reform
  • Promoting Election Security

If this Act does not pass, there may be no second chances. Your help is needed.
