Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

July 2, 1964: President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which prohibited discrimination on the basis of race, color of one’s skin, religion, sex, or national origin. Provisions of the Civil Rights Act prohibit unequal application of the law and discrimination on the basis of sex and race in schools, employment, public administration and voter registration.
