Debra Woithe, Manatee County’s Environmental Lands Manager, will be our guest speaker at this month’s meeting.  Debra joined Manatee County in 2021 to further establish the Environmental Lands Program and implement the land conservation referendum that was supported by over 70% of Manatee County’s voters. She works with the Environmental Lands Management and Acquisition Committee (ELMAC), county staff and strategic partners to acquire and manage conservation and recreational land in Manatee County. With 25 years of combined experience in academia, government agencies, and private consulting, Debra has held key technical and management roles involving environmental analysis, spatial technology, planning and governance. She will share with us about the county’s land conservation program and introduce us to Hannah Turbiville, who is the Environmental Lands Program Coordinator for Manatee County. There will be time for Q & A.

The photograph above was taken at the new Crooked River Ranch Preserve, which is the newest Manatee County preserve and the first to receive financing from the land conservation referendum.  The League supported the referendum in 2020 and recently wrote letters of support for grants sought to benefit this new preserve.  The League was well represented at its Celebration dedication last Friday.
